Every life is precious, both to God and to the family and friends who know that person. Therefore it is desperately sad when a tragedy strikes and that life is no more.
A lot of comments have appeared on social media comparing the tragedy of the Titan submersible which imploded, killing all 5 occupants, to the overcrowded fishing boat that sunk off the coast of Greece, killing over 500 migrants. The comments have centred around the difference in media coverage and the huge disparity of the rescue attempts.
It makes it seem that the wealth of the sub passengers made them worth a bigger rescue effort compared to the poverty and desperation of the migrants.
But I don’t believe that is how God sees it!
Each of us matters to God - old, young, rich or poor. God teaches that life is a gift from Him, and that all life matters.
He made each of us unique, and special. No one can ever, or will ever walk the earth who is exactly the same as us. Each of us is precious to him; made in his image and called to live out our God-given identity as his sons and daughters.
For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." ( Ephesians 2:10)
The Bible tells us time and time again that we're priceless to God, yet it's easy to lose sight of just how much we're loved.
We’re told in Luke’s Gospel” God even knows how many hairs you have on your head. Don’t be afraid. You are worth much more than many birds”. (12.7)
Every life that was lost at sea was someone loved by God and equal in his sight, just as you and I are!
